Diversions -> Recycling

We all hear a great deal about how we should recycle, how much it would help the environment and save on resources, etc. While some of this is true and some of it is perhaps a bit overstressed in our society, Scotty's is actively working to truly help the environment.

When resurfacing roads or other such work, Scotty's jobs by their very nature allow us to recycle road material on the spot by using it on our current job.

Beyond that, Scotty's has an extensive asphalt shingle recycling program. Shingles that would have ended up in a landfill instead end up in the roads we pave.

Not only is this good for the environment, but with the help of Scotty's Technology Center Laboratories we have created a recycled asphalt product that is actually stronger than standard asphalt! Scotty's uses recycled material in approximately 10% of all its work per year!

Step 1: begins at Scotty's own Technology Center Laboratories where technicians use computer analysis of multiple mixes to find the absolute strongest and most durable asphalt mixes possible within current state guidelines. When we say "Quality Paves the Way" we aren't kidding.

The next four steps are basically to grind and sift the shingles...then to grind and sift them again.

Step 2: Asphalt shingles are loaded into a special grinder.

Step 3: Ground asphalt material is loaded into a screening device.

Step 4: Screened material is returned to the grinder to be ground much smaller.

Step 5: Reground material is returned for a final screening.

Step 6: Recycled material is stockpiled for use in Scotty's hot mix asphalt.
