FAQ About Working at Scotty's

Have more questions? Here are some we often get asked by people interested in a career with Scotty’s. If you don’t find what you’re looking for, give us a call. We’ll be happy to talk more.

  • How close to home will I work? Am I required to travel for work?

    As a regional contractor, we work within commuting distance of where we live to ensure Scotty’s employees the ability to return home to their families at the end of every shift. In the rare event that we accept projects outside of our normal working region, we make accommodations to support employees while they’re away from home.

  • I don’t see the position I’m interested in. Can I still apply?

    Yes! You can submit a general application linked at the bottom of our Open Positions page. Or you can contact our main office to speak with one of our recruiters.

  • What are your typical working hours?

    Working hours vary among our operating divisions and positions, all dependent on project needs. Night-time shifts are most common in our asphalt paving division, asphalt plants division, and quarry division.

  • Is there an opportunity for working overtime?

    Yes, opportunities to work overtime for increased pay exist within most of our divisions. This is especially true during our peak working season, which takes place during spring and summer months. Availability of overtime is determined by project schedule and supervisor approval.

  • Do you work year-round, or are there seasonal lay-offs?

    Scotty’s schedules work strategically to ensure regular work hours for employees 12 months of the year. While the majority of our divisions are able to operate year-round, our paving operations are restricted somewhat during winter months. For employees who experience temporary seasonal lay-off, we offer the ability to return to work at the beginning of the next paving season without the need to reapply.
